National Literary Contest titled “Children Also Conquer Worlds. Show that You Can!”
Age: from 14 years to 19 years
The “Chance for the Children and Nature of Bulgaria” Foundation organizes the annual National Literary Contest titled “Children Also Conquer Worlds. Show that You Can!”. Each year, the theme of the essays is different and aims to inspire the creative talent of young people from across the country. In the previous edition, young people aged 14 to 20 from across Bulgaria had the opportunity to showcase their literary talent and command of the Bulgarian language. The theme “Before I Fall Asleep…” encouraged participants to explore moments of reflection in the minutes before drifting off to sleep. The overall winner was Petar Chavdarov from Burgas, with his short story “Wormhole.”
This year’s theme is “Once Upon a Time…”, and the genre is a children’s fairy tale.
Under the motto “When words lull us to sleep, imagination awakens worlds” we invite young authors aged 14 to 19 to take on the challenge of writing an original fairy tale for children aged 4 to 10.
The thirteenth edition of the competition has a special creative mission – to bring together the talents of young writers and artists to create an illustrated collection of children’s fairy tales. The three stories awarded first, second, and third place will automatically be included in the book. The organiser may also select additional stories based on their literary merit and the overall length of the publication.
Conditions for participation and competition rules:
- Participants – young people aged 14 to 19;
- Competition texts – new and unpublished;
- Formatting requirements: up to 3 printed pages, A4 format, Times New Roman 12 pt. font and size; line-spacing 1.5; no personal data or information about the author on the document (work)
- Genre: Children story;
- Official language: Bulgarian.
Evaluation criteria:
- Competence in story and character creation;
- Originality;
- Good command of the language.

- Deadline for submission of entries: December 21, 2026.

- Announcement of finalists: January 15, 2027, on the website of the Chance for the Children and Nature of Bulgaria Foundation, as well as on the social media pages of the Foundation and the Center for Young Talents.
Applicants who do not comply with the above conditions will not be eligible to participate.
Candidates who have used artificial intelligence to create, check, or improve texts will be disqualified. All works will be checked using certified artificial intelligence detection software!
