Presentation of an Honorary Certificate and Documentary Film about Stoyan Shivachev

The documentary film and honorary certificate dedicated to Stoyan Shivachev are the work of the Creative Writing Club “For the Flying People”, led by Dr. Dobrina Topalova. The young authors are supported by the Chance for the Children and Nature of Bulgaria Foundation, which helps talented youth in Burgas to grow and create.

The inspiration to learn and share both known and unknown facts about the Burgas teacher, lawyer, and public figure came from Dr. Topalova herself. She contributed as editor to the publication “Unpublished Pages by Stoyan Shivachev. From the Manuscript: Thrace – A Geographical (Topographical), Historical, Ethnographic, Economic, etc. Description”, authored by Stoyan Raychevski.

The young researchers discovered that Wikipedia — the most commonly used source of information for their peers — lacked an entry about Shivachev. Motivated to fill this gap, they decided to delve deeper into the life of this notable figure. Following his traces, they met with local historians and relatives, and conducted in-depth field research in places like Malko Tarnovo and Sozopol.

They documented their findings, which led to the creation of the film and the honorary certificate. Today, if you search for his name on Wikipedia, you will find an article that thoroughly traces and illustrates the life of this remarkable lawyer.
Few residents of Burgas know that there once was a street named after him in the city, as well as a monument—now gone.

“Our goal was to create something that reaches young people,” explained Dr. Topalova. “The evening dedicated to Stoyan Shivachev is the culmination of our work. We will present the honorary certificate to all attendees and distribute copies to local schools. We gift them to Burgas so that the name of Stoyan Shivachev is not forgotten!”

The project, titled “The Now Unknown Stoyan Shivachev – One of the Illustrious Builders of Burgas”, is supported by the Culture Fund of the Municipality of Burgas.
The event begins at 6:30 PM on June 3 at the Center for Contemporary Art and Library – Burgas.
The project continues the mission of the Chance for the Children and Nature of Bulgaria Foundation: to support the educational and creative growth of talented youth. Through this initiative, the Foundation not only preserves cultural memory but also inspires the next generation to become active participants in discovering and telling meaningful, though forgotten, stories.
